Magnificent and very unusual double-page engraved map.

This is a remarkable physical map of the earth, showing several extensive offshore mountain ranges, entitled Des Alpes Septentrionales and Des Alpes Meridionales in the Pacific Ocean and Suite Des Alpes in the Atlantic Ocean and again in the Indian Ocean. Other notable features include an excellent example of the West Bay and the Northwest Passage, as well as incomplete examples from New Zealand and Australia. One of Tardieu's earliest works.
