Karl Blossfeldt (1865 - 1932) is considered to be one of the leading exponents of "Neue Sachlichkeit". He was passionate about the forms of nature, which, in his words, "approach the highest artistic standards". He embarked on an extraordinary adventure that was to become personal and artistic for some thirty years: creating an inventory of plant structures by listing the varied shapes and motifs of plants, foliage, stems, tendrils, roots and the multitude of botanical patterns visible or less visible to the naked eye.
