Charles François Philibert Masson (Blamont, 22 January 1761 - Coblence, 6 June 18071) was a French writer. He began his career as a watchmaker's apprentice in Neuchâtel, but became more interested in the arts and went to Russia, where he became the tutor of the children of Count Nikolai Saltykov, the Minister of War. The Count made it his main domus. He became popular among the St. Petersburg elite for his wit, his taste for literature and his conversation. He became the private secretary of Grand Duke Alexander of Russia, the man who would become Tsar Alexander I in 1805.
