Barthélémy-Gabriel Rolland de Chambaudoin d'Erceville, born in 1734, member of the Parliament of Paris and president of the Chamber of Inquiries, known for "his very ardent zeal for the destruction of the Jesuits", was charged with presiding over a commission to examine the study plans proposed by the universities under the jurisdiction of the Court and to report on them to the Parliament. He was exceptionally active in these functions and was criticised for being hasty and biased; he carried out several inspection missions in the provinces and was responsible for the new organisation of the Collège Louis-le-Grand and for bringing together the scholarship holders of the university colleges, which had been abolished in 1762, in this establishment. Hostile to the Revolution, he was one of the last victims of the Great Terror and died on the scaffold on 20 April 1794. His reports, opuscules and pamphlets were collected in a collection of over a thousand pages published in 1783.
