Master Masahiro Oki (1919-1985) was born in Hiroshima prefecture. At the age of 14, he met the Burmese monk U Ottama, father of Burmese independence, on a visit to Japan, and discovered yoga. During World War II, Oki studied Zen in China, Tibetan Buddhism in Mongolia and Tibet, Brahmanism in Arabia and Iran, and yoga in India, experiencing and practising various religious traditions. He also integrated elements of Japanese martial arts and opened a yoga dojo in Mishima, Shizuoka Prefecture. In Japan, this school is known as OKI Yoga or OKI-DO YOGA, while abroad it is known exclusively as OKI-DO YOGA.
