Robert Barrier was considered the "living memory of Crepynois life". A former insurer, he divided his life between his three passions. The theatre, first of all. During the Second World War, he joined Max Darlo's travelling company. He left the company after a few years. He then turned to his second passion: the circus. On this subject, he wrote three books, including "Les Cirques de ma jeunesse" and "Les Cirques voyageurs de France". In addition, he regularly published a magazine on the circus that was distributed internationally. But he also devoted much of his free time to his city. Robert Barrier was passionate about the local history of Crépy, where his family had been established for five generations. He also published two books on the subject: "Histoire anecdotique des rues et places", volumes I and II.
