Since millions of people turn to the Bible in times of trouble, why not use Bible stories in the field of mental health? This is what Erich Wellisch (1898 - 1954) advocates in his 1954 book Study in Biblical Psychology of the Sacrifice of Isaac-the Akadah. Wellisch's interpretation is another version of the theory that the Akedah represents a revolt against the practice of infanticide. It is presented in psychoanalytic terminology and as a derivative of the Oedipus complex.
