The present work is a continuation of the important monograph devoted to Kikoine's work in 1973, a monograph accompanied by a catalogue comprising 746 numbers (paintings, collages, lithographs) described and listed. Since that time, more than a hundred new paintings have been reported. They appear at the end of this book, following the previous catalogue.
Among the great expressionist painters of the École de Paris, Michel Kikoïne occupies a special place, between his friends Krémègne and Soutine. This trio of artists, who arrived from Russia around 1912-1913, formed the first contingent of a pleiad of painters of the same origin who came to settle in Paris, the capital of the Arts at the beginning of the 20th century.
