Reprint of the eighth volume of the Histoire militaire du règne de Louis-le-Grand (which from its publication does not have a tomaison, as it was to be sold separately), being entirely occupied by the Maximes et instructions militaires. It is the first time that Vauban's treatise on mines has been included (volume 2 p. 281 - 345).
Charles Sevin, known as the Marquis de Quincy (1660-1728), King's Brigadier, Lieutenant-General of the Artillery, distinguished himself above all at Hochstaedt in 1704. In 1707, he commanded the artillery of the army, and was appointed after the peace of Utrecht governor of the Auvergne. We owe him the important Histoire militaire du règne de Louis le Grand in 8 volumes, 1726.
