Janvier was a French geographer active in the second half of the 18th century. According to Norwich and Tooley, Janvier produced a series of maps in 1760, and collaborated on a Modern Atlas in 1762 and 1771. The present map, originally published in 1762, is number 28 of that atlas and appears to present the cartographic knowledge of Africa in the mid-18th century.
Two maps by the French astronomer Nicolas Louis de La Caille are included: 1. Carte particulière du Cap de Bonne Espérence. - 2. Carte particulière de l'Isle de France.
