The author's dedication is part of the signature, which every copy of the first edition had to be covered with.
Roche-Lubin (1805 - 1853) was a veterinarian in Saint-Affrique (Aveyron). In the course of his work, he covered the most diverse questions of agriculture and veterinary science. He devoted himself especially to the study of beef and sheep diseases and demonstrated the possibility of clavilising sheep by making them eat bran, grains impregnated with claveleux virus. He published popular works on pig diseases, on the hygiene of domestic animals, on the breeding of wool animals. Finally, he gave a number of interesting observations to the Recueil de médecine vétérinaire and the Journal des Vétérinaires du Midi (see Neumann, Biographies vétérinaires).
