From her conservative British origins, the life of Alice Bailey (1880-1949) took many directions, but in time it became focused on a single direction once she had acquired through drastic personal experiences of all kinds, a synthetic vision, understanding and absolute conviction that a single divine life pervaded and animated the one humanity; that the Plan for humanity called for the cooperation and service of trained and dedicated human beings, intelligently informed about world affairs and collaborating with those who form the inner government of the planet, the spiritual Hierarchy. His life's work became an integral part of this synthesis and realisation. Without losing any of her human qualities and implications, her soul committed itself to her Master, and her personality provided full collaboration in the field of service which she accepted. Fundamentally, her work developed as a duality - her service of discipleship, which included the founding of an esoteric school, and her initially reluctant commitment to work with the Tibetan Djwhal Khul in the writing of a series of books presenting, in continuity with the teaching of the 'Ageless Wisdom', the coming phase for the present time and the near future.
