Beautiful large-margin engraved double-page map, hand-coloured.The Kingdom of Sardinia was formed from 1718-1720 to 1861, through the incorporation of Sardinia into the continental states of the House of Savoy, which extended on either side of the western Alps.
Pierre François Tardieu (1711 - 1771) belonged to a family of cartographers and engravers from the mid-to-late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. He was a highly regarded map engraver during his lifetime, enjoying the patronage of Alexander von Humboldt and the respect of his colleagues. He engraved a number of maps of the Americas, including Virginia and the south-east coast, Canada and the north-east of the United States, as well as several maps of European and American cities.
