    Magnificent detailed map with wide margins engraved on double pages, hand-coloured.

    Pierre François Tardieu (1711 - 1771) belonged to a family of cartographers and engravers in the mid to late 18th and early 19th centuries. He was a highly regarded map engraver during his lifetime, enjoying the patronage of Alexander von Humboldt and the respect of his colleagues. He engraved a number of maps of the Americas, including Virginia and the south-east coast, Canada and the north-east of the United States, as well as several maps of European and American cities.
